Atmospheric and Computer Science Exploratory Scholars (ACES) Scholarship to UNC-Asheville
The Atmospheric and Computer Science Exploratory Scholars (ACES) scholarship program at UNC Asheville, sponsored by the National Science Foundation, will provide scholarship and academic support for 34 undergraduate students majoring in the Atmospheric and Computer Sciences (A&CS) while enrolled at the University of North Carolina at Asheville. Applications will be considered only for students accepted at the university who have completed the FAFSA form and are U.S. citizens, permanent residents, nationals, or refugees. The ACES Scholarship Selection Committee will review and rank the applications based on the following review criteria: 1) High school academic performance, including high school GPA, high school biology, chemistry, physics, and math grades, class rank, and SAT score; 2) College or university academic performance (if applicable), including GPA and grades in science and math courses; 3) Letter of recommendation, which will be evaluated for aptitude, seriousness as a student, and motivation for a future in a STEM discipline; and 4) Essay answering the question "Why study atmospheric or computer sciences?" The essay will be evaluated for organization, motivation for STEM education, desire to major in atmospheric or computer science, and communication skills. Deadline is February 15

Della Arnold Scholarship
$500 scholarship awarded to one student pursuing a career in the teaching profession or the ministerial profession from either Wilkes County Schools, Iredell-Statesville Schools, or Yadkin County Schools. All application materials are available on the link posted above. Deadline is February 10, 2022.
Elks Legacy Awards
The Legacy Awards application opens on September 1, 2020. Legacy Awards provide $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren (including stepchildren, step grandchildren and legal wards) of dues-paying Elk members. A total of 350 awards are given nationally. The deadline to apply is February 5, 2021.
FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid)
While filing the FAFSA is not a scholarship, it is an essential part of seeking scholarships and financial aid for college. Many scholarship programs use FAFSA calculations to determine financial need. Additionally, colleges and universities award federal financial aid dollars based on a first-come, first-served basis, so you want to be sure you are considered for aid you may be eligible to receive. The FAFSA can be completed any time after October 1 and most colleges/universities require FAFSA completion by March 1.
Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship
The Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship (FKMS) honors the memory of the first president of the National Society of the Colonial Dames of America in the State of North Carolina. A $3000 scholarship is awarded annually to a student who plans to attend a North Carolina college or university. $1000 is awarded to the runner up. Deadline is midnight on February 7, 2021.
G. Gerald Hendley Family Scholarship
Scholarship awarded to a Wilkes County Schools graduate who plans to pursue a degree/career in a medical field and has demonstrated financial need. Maximum scholarship award is $25,000. Multiple awards may be given. Deadline is February 10, 2022.
Matthew C. Graziadei Achievement Scholarship Award
ALL North Carolina students with disabilities are eligible for nomination. This includes students enrolled in the Occupation Course of Study, students who will be receiving a Certificate of Graduation and students enrolled in the Future Ready Course of Study. Characteristics that will qualify students for the award include determination, perseverance, persistence, dedication, confidence, motivation, fortitude, accomplishment, excellence, and quality. Deadline is February 10, 2021.
National Technical Honor Society Scholarships
There are several different scholarships available to members of the National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). The applications are available September - April each year. Check out their website for details and deadlines.
NCHSAA Endowed Funds Scholarships
Thanks to the generosity of many donors, there are several scholarships offered to eligible student-athletes. Deadlines fall between November and April and require the submission of a form to the high school counselor to release transcripts to the scholarship committee. Please review all scholarships offered to determine your eligibility.
NC Scholarship for Children of Wartime Veterans

Sharma Family Scholarship
Students must graduate from a NC high school and plan to attend college in North Carolina. Preference given to students planning to attend NC State University. Applicants must have a high regard for obtaining an education and the courage to pursue it in spite of limited resources. Students must also demonstrate leadership, involvement in extracurricular activities, friendship to others, a solid work ethic, a purpose and plan for becoming a productive citizen, and a commitment to diversity, recognizing the value of all people, regardless of religion, ethnicity, socioeconomic status, or ability. Deadline is February 9, 2021.
Wilkes Education Foundation Scholarship
These highly competitive scholarships (one $10,000 and ten $1,000 scholarships) are available to students from Wilkes County. Deadline is February 10, 2022.
The Foundation has been providing financial assistance to students for over 94 years and has helped more than 15,000 students attend college. Last year, there were 614 scholarships worth $1.4 million dollars awarded to 537 students from Wilkes, Forsyth, Davie, Davidson, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin counties. There are many scholarships available through this site that all use a single scholarship application, with deadlines beginning in January. The deadline for most merit-based scholarships is March 15, 2022, and the deadline for financial need based scholarships is July 1, 2022. Definitely check this website out to see what might fit for you. The single-stop scholarship application opens January 1, 2022.
