Christopher W. Thompson Educational Scholarship
HM3 Christopher W. Thompson was killed in the line of duty and this $500 scholarship is awarded by the local VFW Post 1142 and Ladies Auxiliary in his memory. One scholarship awarded to a student at NWHS and one awarded to another student from the other county high schools. Deadline is May 1.
Kiwanis Key Club Scholarship
A $500 scholarship will be given to a graduating senior Key Club member at each of the county high schools. The criteria for this award is demonstrated academic excellence, citizenship through service, and leadership. Student must be current member of their school's Key Club to apply. Deadline to return your application to your school counselor is March 31, 2017.
Larry & Diane Stone Scholarship
$1000 scholarship to a student planning to attend one of the UNC System schools.The essay is a critical component of the scholarship application. Deadline for returning your application to your school counselor is April 3, 2017.
Mountain View Medical Center Scholarship
Two $1500 scholarships awarded to NWHS seniors planning to go into a medical field. Financial need and evidence of student motivation to finish college will be considered. Deadline is April 15 annually.
Mountain View Ruritan Club Scholarship
$500 scholarship for a NWHS senior based on financial need, character, scholarship, and academic promise. Deadline is March 15 annually.
Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club Scholarship
The Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club will provide a one time award of $500 to a student residing in the Mulberry-Fairplains attendance area who will attend Wilkes Community College. The recipient will be chosen from applications received by the Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club Scholarship Committee and will be based on the applicant’s need and on the potential of academic success as determined from past performance records provided by the applicant to the Mulberry-Fairplains Ruritan Club Scholarship Committee. Deadline is April 30, 2017.
North Wilkes Viking Athletic Club Grants
The North Wilkes High School Viking Athletic Club is pleased to offer an educational grant in the amount of $1,000 to one graduating female athlete and one graduating male athlete. The female award is the Elaine B. Shepherd Viking Athletic Club Grant and the male award is the Jim Prevette Viking Athletic Club Grant.
The deadline is May 10.
North Wilkesboro Rotary Club Foundation Scholarships
The Hugh Martin Scholarship is for students planning to attend a four-year college or university and five $1000 scholarships will be awarded in the county. The Gene Foster Scholarship is for students planning to attend Wilkes Community College (or another community college) and four $1000 scholarships will be awarded to students in the four traditional high schools. Deadline for you to return your application to your school counselor is April 25, 2017.
People Helping People by the State Employees' Credit Union Foundation
$10,000 scholarship to a public high school student attending one of the UNC system schools next year. Each high school's scholarship committee will decide which student will be selected based on the scholarship criteria: Student must have at least a 2.5 gpa and must have demonstrated leadership, excellence of character, integrity, and community involvement. Preference will be given to students whose parents/guardians are public sector employees who live and work in North Carolina. The flyer for this scholarship is located here. Rear Admiral Scott Sears Memorial JROTC Scholarship
Scholarship for a JROTC student who plans to pursue a military career. In Wilkes County, students from North Wilkes and Wilkes Central JROTC programs are eligible to apply. Deadline is March 1, 2016.
Red Hot Dragon Scholarship
The purpose of this scholarship is to assist a former Red Hot Dragon student from Mountain View Elementary who is now a graduating senior from North Wilkes High School in pursuing their college/career challenges by providing a scholarship opportunity. This scholarship may be used for purchasing a required tool or uniform for the work force of their choice or in pursuing to further education at an accredited college or university or work training program. The 5th grade Beta Club will assist in choosing the recipient of this scholarship. Selection criteria includes:1) Individual must be a graduating senior from North Wilkes High School; 2) Individual must have attended Mountain View Elementary School for at least one of their elementary school years; and 3) Individual must be entering or continuing an accredited college/university education or must be entering the work force or a work training program. Applications due to Mr. Miller by May 5, 2017.
Roy & Collie Sebastian Scholarship
This $1,000 renewable scholarship provides educational aid for graduating high school seniors from North Wilkes High School who are pursuing post-secondary education at private or public two-year or four-year colleges or institutions. The guidelines for the scholarship can be found here. Deadline is April 28, 2017.
$500 scholarship awarded by the Blue Ridge Mountain VFW Post 1142 to a senior in each of the four Wilkes County high schools. Deadline is May 1.
Viking Crew Scholarships
This scholarship application allows students to apply to the Tommy Huskey Memorial Scholarship, the Founder's Scholarship, the Edwin J. Canter Honorary Scholarship, the Paul W. Gregory Scholarship, or the Hicks Recognition Scholarship. The qualifications for each scholarship are: 1) be a NWHS senior, 2) have intentions of furthering your education beyond high school, 3) be of good character and display willingness to accept responsibility for yourself; 4) participate in extracurricular (at the school and/or in the community); and 5)show financial need. Deadline for scholarship is April 28, 2017.
